The roof of the fighting compartment and gun are missing from this Sturmgeschtz III Ausf.G. and the vehicle has been covered with earth, foliage, and branches. Chances are it was destroyed by a “Jabbo” or an artillery barrage, which has churned up the ground.
The metal bracket partially attached to the side of the fighting-compartment would have held spare road wheels, this was a field mod applied to vehicles of Pz.Abt.103 and H.Stu.Gesch.907 in Italy. The extra ‘s’-hook, barely discernible on the front of the superstructure, was only seen on vehicles from the Pz.Abt. 103.
