This exchange between Steve McQueen and Angus Lennie has some truth to it. McQueen did indeed go to college, but studied acting rather than chemical engineering and his bike races did help pay a part of his tuition. In fact, he bought his first motorcycle with his winnings.
God I love this movie, the book, everything.
But I really really love McQueen.
