A Pz.Kpfw. Ausf. J from II.Panzer Regiment 2 from 2.SS-Panzer-Division ‘Das Reich’, lies burned out in a field near St. Lô in late June or early July 1944. In April 1944, the division was stationed in southern France near Toulouse and was ordered to Normandy shortly after the Allied landings. Their progress was delayed by constant attacks from the Maquis and several hundred civilians were executed in reprisal.
