Captured Tunis Tiger!

Guten Tag Herr Fallschirmjäger! I have to salute you for the kick ass blog you have put together. Damn, I´m impressed. I have just come to page 95 and I realise that I have a couple of days of nice reading in front of me. Anyhow, I saw a picture with Lauri Törni on page 74 and just want to give you a tip and Google that fella. You might already know all about him but if not, read what Wikipedia tells about him. Keep up the good work. Regards Pontus

A Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. F belonging to Rommel’s Deutsches Afrika Korps (DAK) moves past a group of Soldaten as they remove rocks to improve their fighting position. Major changes on this Ausf. F included the introduction of 50mm-based armor, including straight front superstructure plate that was 50mm thick which incorporated a new Fahrersehklappe 50 (drivers vision port for 50mm based armor) and a Kugelblende 50 (machine-gun mount for 50mm armor). These last items were adapted from the Pz.Kpf.III Ausf. J. Dished drive sprockets were fitted to accommodate wider 40cm tracks, as were wider road-wheels. These were fitted to lessen the ground pressure that resulted from the increase in the overall weight of the more heavily armored panzer. The turret also recived a new two-part side hatch lids first sen on the 4/Z.W. (Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. E) chassis. This panzer is missing the second road-wheel from the first bogie spring, possibly due to a failure on the rubber tire rim, a common occurrence in the head if the desert. Note the spare  on the side of the engine deck. The turret carries a three-digit Tac number, possibly 422 on its side, there are no other markings visible.

Wearing the look of smug confidence of a capable combat veteran (and a conspicuous Knight’s Cross around his neck), this unidentified commander stands in the cupola of a Pz.Kpfw. IV (Ausf. F or G) that has no doubt witnessed a string of successes during winter combat. This photo illustrates how haphazard the painting of winter camouflage could be.

A Pz.Kpfw. Ausf. J from II.Panzer Regiment 2 from 2.SS-Panzer-Division ‘Das Reich’, lies burned out in a field near St. Lô in late June or early July 1944. In April 1944, the division was stationed in southern France near Toulouse and was ordered to Normandy shortly after the Allied landings. Their progress was delayed by constant attacks from the Maquis and several hundred civilians were executed in reprisal.

Late war Jagdpanzer 38(t) manufactured at the Skoda plant received an almost identical camouflage paint scheme of hard-edged wavy lines of Rotbraun RAL 8017 and Olivgrün RAL 6003 patches over the Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 base. Although it is not evident here due to the amount of dirt and mud on the wheels, individual wheels were completely painted in either of the two camouflage colors. This vehicle is an early version with the smaller horizontal muffler.

This column of July-September 1944 production StuG.III Ausf. G has has a unique set of spaced armor plates added to the sides of the superstructure in place of the standard Schürzen. The gunners seat can be seen laying on the (left)forward edge of the roof. They are otherwise unremarkable except for the standard Bosch headlight fitted to the Notek light base on the glacis.

are there any WW2 blogs you dislike like ones i should avoid?

To be honest, I never given any thought to that until you posited this question in my ask-box oh gray being. I am of the mind that if I dislike something, I pay it no mind as it just gets in the way of things I enjoy and care about. I tend to avoid blogs that fall into the following:
a) tired pictures of typical subjects, b) wrongful or deceitful information (being misinformed is one thing, but to foster incorrect information shows many a character flaw) c) things I find aesthetically unpleasing. In short I think it is a personal choice more or less.

M.A.N. built Pz.Kpfw. V Panther Ausf. G (Sd.Kfz. 171) in Hintenhalte (ambush camouflage pattern) of Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 as the base-coat, with swaths of Olivegrün RAL 6003, and the “dots” consisting of the base color of RAL 7028. This appears to be the earlier version of this camouflage technique first used by the M.A.N and Henschel production facilities.

Two interesting finds in the overran Skoda plant:
(Top) The late Jagdpanzer 38(t) (Sd.Kfz. 138/2) with factory applied camouflage and Flammenvernichten exhaust. Note how even the bottom hull has had the RAL 7027 and RAL 6003 camouflage pattern.
(Bottom) A Jagdpanzer 38(t) from the summer 44 production batches with ‘
Hintenhalte’ camouflage applied and ‘initial’ 12 hole pattern idlers.

Oh god not you again you fucking know it all. why do you even post this crap nobody cares about the details. just post and shut up.
