According to General Graf von Schwerin, commander of the 116. Panzer-Division ‘Windhund’, his division had to take over thirty Panzer IV’s from 1.SS-Division ‘Liebstandarte’. Only fifteen Panzer IV’s were received in Liège. The other half would be transferred in the division’s combat zone by an officer of 1.SS.Pz.Div. ‘Liebstandarte. This never transpired as the officer in charge, while trying to transfer the tanks to his own division, lost all of the Panzer IV’s after driving them into a suburb of Liège that had already been occupied by Patton’s 3rd Armored Division
