Plate01:One of the last turrets for the Pz.Kpfw.VI Tiger Ausf.B completed by Weggman und Co’s Kessel plant. The abbreviation “gepr.” (inspected) and the date 21./3.(21 March 1945) were chalked on the turret side. All of the last modifications had been completed on this turret. These include welding three sets of hangers fore and aft on both turret sides for spare single link track, welding five loops on both sides of the turret for holding camouflage as well as welding a single post on top of the left periscope guard on the cupola as a base for a swiveling anti-aircraft MG mount.

Plate02: A stack of ten Weggman und Ko. made Pz.Kpfw.VI Tiger Ausf.B hulls. The turret featured above and the ten Tiger Ausf.B hulls were all shipped to the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. The Tiger with turret mounted was later sent to the Panzer Museum in Munster Germany.

Since I am posting Panzer stuff it would be a disservice of me to not post a picture of Mr. Achtung Panzer! himself, Heinz Wilhelm Guderian. One of the most underrated but influential men in modern warfare. Here we have a rather jaunty looking Generalinspekteur der Panzertruppen while on a “Jagdausflug” at Hermann Göring’s Carinhall estate.

While I am not normally a fan of colorized pics from WWII, I found this shot of Heinz Gudarian quite interesting.

Plate01: Generaloberst Guderian (in the black panzer uniform) with Generalleutnant (later General der Panzertruppe) Walter Wenck. The latter is wearing the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross awarded him on 28 December 1942.

Plate02: A Panzergrenadier laden Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.G (Sd.Kfz.161/2) belonging to Heinz Guderian’s old name sake 2.Panzerarmee (Panzergruppe Guderian)/3.Panzer-Division. Of note here is the turret with the addition of schürzen spaced armor which has a coating Zimmerit, but lacks the skirts for the hull armor, the brackets for the schürzen are barely discernible due to all the equipment aboard the tank’s fenders.

Female soldier, Vietnam war

Fallschirmjager:
A Vietcong (or NLF for National Liberation Front) wearing the Vietcong red and white gingham scarf (called a Krama), this was used to differentiate themselves from the populace, it also acted as a political symbol. When the Vietcong would occupy hamlets in South Vietnam, they would provide a provisional government. The scarf would signify that the wearer is part of the NLF (both regular and irregular forces) and would receive food, medical treatment and general help from the people of the hamlets. If a person was to deny help or worse yet, tell ARVN or US forces their movements and contact with the village, the village would be razed and usually the people shot outright. Just something to think about the next time you’re watching footage about the war in Vietnam.

A rather famous shot of a NLF irregular (or Vietcong) guerrilla equipped with a Northern Vietnamese made Mosin Nagant. All over in Northern Vietnam and in NLF controlled South Vietnam were guerrilla weapons makers, a lot of the SKS, AK47s and Mosin Nagants in the mid to late Vietnam war were manufactured in less than perfect field conditions. I myself think this just adds to the legendary resiliency of the People of North Vietnam as well as adds to the legacy of both of those iconic weapons.

Messerschmitt P1101-104
This heavy two-seat Zerstörer which followed at the end of June/early July 1944, in its layout and construction was a further development of the P1101-99. for the first time, however a ‘sickle’ or crescent wing platform was employed, the four HeS-001 turbojets mounted in the underwing paired nacelles projecting ahead of the wing, which had a leading edge sweep of 50° inboard and 37° outboard of the turbojets. As in the earlier project (Messerschmitt P1101-99), it had a swept butterfly tail. fixed forward firing armament consisted of a BK7.5(PaK40) cannon to starboard and three MK 108 on the port side, between which the retracted nose-wheel rested vertically. A further three MK108 cannon were arranged to fire obliquely upwards at mid-fuselage surrounded by the fore and aft fuselage fuel tanks, with additional tankage in the wing box main-spar structure. At the rear was a remote controlled FDL 108Z tail barbette.
Like the earlier projects, Dipl.-Ing.* Hans Hornung had design leadership for the P1101/XVIII-104. Priority given to the Jägernotprogramm (Fighter emergency Program) of July 1944 cause this proposal to be confined to the drawing board.
The essentially identical P1101/XVIII-105 ‘fast bomber’ with a reduced fuel capacity was able to carry an internal bombload of nine SC500 or four SC1000 bombs in its capacious 6.6m (2’7-3/4”) long bomb bay, the oblique upward firing MK108s having been deleted.

Plate01:An artists rendition of what the Messerschmit P1101-104 would have looked like in operation. Notice the classic ‘Zersötrer’ hornet painted on the lower nose section of the fuselage, as well as the huge BK

Plate02:The Heinkel HeS 8 (prefix being an abbreviation for “Heinkel Strahltriebwerk”-Heinkel Jet Engine) was an early jet engine designed by Hans von Ohain while working at Heinkel. It was the first jet engine to be financially supported by the RLM, bearing the official name 109-001. If naming had been common with other early german jet efforts, it would have been known as the Heinkel 001, but it does not appear this was used in practice.
Specifications: A projected thrust of 700Kg per engine.

Plate03:The Bordkanone 7.5cm (Pak40);this cannon, improved PaK 40 L was created specifically for the H’s 129th It was last run and the return device, an electrical firing has been installed and switched the supply to an electro-pneumatic system. Were housed in the magazine 12 rounds fed through the means of moving parallelogram loading table and the charger could be fired in single or continuous fire. Because of the high load of the aircraft, the muzzle energy of the weapon was 185 000 mkg, was shot in the use of single shots. The barrel with flash suppressor his towering about 980 mm (because the return was 900 mm) from the bow of the “flying can opener,” as they called the Hs 129 B-2/R4 armed with these weaponsSpecifications: 75 mm caliber, 30 rounds min cadence /, mass 705 kg and 6105 mm length.

Plate04:The Rheinmetall Borsig Mk108 cannon(Maschinenkanone-108), better known as the “Pneumatic Hammer” due to it’s distinctive firing sound, was the main weapon of the Me 262. Four of these weapons were fitted in the nose of the machine, and could be fired in banks of either two or four simultaneously. With a rate of fire of about 11 shells per second. The destructive power of these four 30 mm cannon was nothing short of incredible. Since the “mine shells” used in the Mk108 exploded on impact, only a quick burst was needed to bring down a large four engined bomber.
Specifications: 30×90RB mm ammunition—30 mm calibre, 90 mm case length, reduced rim.
The initially proposed P1101-104 would have had three on the port side of the nose section, as well as a further three MK108 cannon to be arranged to fire obliquely upwards at mid-fuselage in what the Germans termed the “Schräge Musik” mount.

Plate05: Dipl-Ing Woldemar Volgt (1907-1980) headed the Messerschmitt Project Office and had great influence on all the company aircraft developments and projects, as well as mentoring Dipl-Ing Hans Hornung

E-100 Jagdmaus
Designed to deal with the new US, British and Russian heavy tanks that were in design stage in 1944 onwards. It should be the answer to the IS4, T29, T95 and A39 Tortoise tanks and tank-destroyers. Specifications of these heavy vehicles were leaking out to Germany. The Wehrmacht, “knowing” that heavy stuff must be beaten with even more heavy stuff, gave orders to weapon designers to develop a tank-destroyer heavy enough to withstand damage taken from guns with a penetration value of about 200-250mm. The idea of the Jagdmaus was born and orders for an prototype were given to several companies in Germany.

The Jagdmaus was to be more powerful, though not heavier, than the super heavy Maus prototype tank on which it was based. Porsche was by that time (somewhere around late 1944 begin 1945) struggling to get a Maus prototype tank complete and running and could not start another project along with it so it was postponed until the Maus was to be fully operational. So this tank-destroyer did not leave the drawing board in the way the war went. When the war lasted until the end of 1945 this tank-destroyer could have reached prototype status or even the first mass produced units were available for combat.

As with a lot of late war German tank designs it was mostly used for propaganda purposes. Normal citizens where impressed by weight and size of tank and guns. This propaganda madness led to unusual heavy designs which were barely able to move like the Jagdtiger and the Maus itself. Though the Jagdmaus might be as immobile as the Maus itself, it was a design where some think work was included.
Designers used parts from tanks and tank-destroyers which proved their worth in combat. So the shape of the superstructure was directly taken from the Jagdpanther. Since the sloped armor (around 45 degrees from vertical) almost doubled the thickness of the effective armor. The engine was the same as in the Maus but did not use the new electric transmission, it used a normal transmission like the one used on the Tiger and Panther series tanks. The transmission differs in one significant way though. As Germans always liked to use as few materials as possible they finally realized that using bigger parts were not way as breakable as lightweight small ones. So the transmission and gearbox did contain double sprockets as most US tanks have, which were less vulnerable to transmission failures. Also the need of a ball mounted MG was realized since the Ferdinand lacked one and became an easy prey to infantry. A view port for the driver was also added since the Maus only had periscopes the driver to view through.
As with the most tank-destroyers the lack of a turret reduced the overall weight of the vehicle (with the exception of the Jagdtiger) so when the Jagdpanter-like superstructure was fitted the weight was reduced with about 28-38 tonnes which makes the weight of the Jagdmaus around 150 – 160 tonnes. Of course this superstructure was redesigned to mount a gun which was never been planned to be used as a anti-tank gun. Nor was the gun designed to be used on a tank-destroyer. The superstructure was up-armored aswell. But than still it was a major improvement to the Jagdmaus’ weight. This weight reduction also meant that the suspension, which was designed to take the weight of all 188 tons of the original Maus, was less stressed.
The hull got a total makeover, only the shape remains intact. First only the driver was in the front of the tank and behind him was an engine and electric-generator compartment and in the back of the vehicle was the ammunition, fuel storage and the two electric engines which provide power to the drive sprocket and tracks and on top of that was the turret.

Specifications:

Primary weapon: 170mm KwK44 L71 (Which means the gun is as long as the vehicle itself. Around 9 - 10m.)
Secondary armament: 1x 7,92mm MG42 or MG45 in the superstructure.
Engine & chassis: MB 517 diesel engine V12 (1200 HP), same chassis as the Maus tank but redesigned to fit the ‘new’ hull and superstructure.
Shape: angled armor plating on the superstructure and vertical on the other parts of the vehicle since the armor is thick and tough enough to take some punishment.
Radio and optical equipment: The Jagdmaus will use either the FUG12 or 10WSc radio and will have the same optics used on the Maus. However this can be upgraded with experimental night vision equipment.

Further specifications:

Crew: 6, commander, driver, gunner, radio operator/MG gunner/assistant loader, 2 loaders.
Weight: around 150 -160 tons
Length (including gun): around 18m
Width: 3,71m
Height: about 3m
Armor protection: 30mm (engine deck) to 220mm at 35 degrees from vertical in front.
Top speed: 20-22 km/h, little more than the Maus
Fuel capacity: 4200 liters (internal + external gas tanks)
Action radius: 70-200 km

Plate01:Front overhead view showing the general configuration of the Jagdmaus (also known as the Gerät 809) in its storage hanger. It was powered by a maybach HL230P30 engine mounted in the center of the chassis.

Plate02:Close-up shot of the muzzle brake intended for the 170mm gun mount of the Jagdmaus.

Plate03:The enormous size of the 170mm gun meant that the rear fighting compartment of the Jadgmaus was substantial as seen from the members of the Allied intelligence team.

Does a person who researches serial killers (IE:Forensic Pathological Criminal Profiler) become a serial killer?
Does a person who researches the Inquisition have a torture room Ala The Pit and the Pendulum?
As far as my Fraulein is concerned, I think you should pay attention to your own domestic affairs. The problem with folks like you is you’re all happy to provide advise (unwarranted and unasked for mind you!) when 90% of the time your own personal affairs are ran like a bull in a china-shop. Hell I bet you don’t even know the name of your neighbors, let alone people on your street or block.
Another thing I try and understand is if you don’t like what I post, how is it you refuse to hit the unfollow button? Or are you one of those masochistic types who needs a constant barrage of things that make them uncomfortable? I am not even going to get into that whole faceless (anonymous) criticisms.

I will end this with a quote from Anton LaVey:

“When people ask me, “What gives you the right to suggest standards for others?”, my answer is, “If I don’t, someone else, perhaps less qualified, will.”

What it means is folks like you bitch, moan and complain about how folks on the other side of the world live, when you cannot even run your life from your own area. People like you are what the government loves; malleable minded, will follow any idea lock-step, and unable to see the third-side of any argument. Your black and white world must be rather small.
The gist of what I mean can be summed up in this quote:
“They’re all deluded. People should worry about what happens on their block. They should get along with their neighbors before they worry about the great ills of society and about telling someone who lives 200 miles away what to do”

Now go bother somebody else you frothy cod-piece!
